Adobe Systems Incorporated (Nasdaq:ADBE) announced the availability of Adobe® Flash® Platform Services for Distribution, a new service that enables advertisers and content publishers to promote, measure and monetize applications across social networks, desktops and mobile devices.

Adobe Flash Platform Services are online, hosted services that allow developers to add innovative capabilities to Web applications with a predictable, cost efficient deployment model. Developers, advertisers and publishers are now using Adobe Flash Platform Services to make Web applications sharable, social, and collaborative.

The Need for More Effective Application Distribution and Measuring
With the growth of social media, advertisers and publishers are looking to more predictable and effective methods to reach audiences via social media. There are many benefits to using sharable, social applications to connect with customers; however, it can be difficult to get users to install the applications. Additionally, advertisers, publishers and game developers use distribution methods that don’t support all popular destinations and can be difficult to maintain. Many times, simply posting applications in an app store is the mobile distribution strategy. Rarely is an overall distribution strategy unified across the Web and mobile, making comprehensive analytics difficult to obtain.

The new Distribution service from Adobe helps solve these challenges. Adobe is partnering with Gigya Inc., a leading social media authentication and distribution platform, to provide advertisers, publishers and game makers with a comprehensive distribution solution. The solution includes a unified management tool to effectively promote, measure and monetize Web applications and games.

Viral distribution by making applications sharable – Flash and other Web applications can be distributed to most Web, desktop and mobile platforms. The sharing feature is easily implemented, enabling users to share applications with a single click on social networking sites, on the desktop and mobile platforms.
Mobile applications distribution – Web applications built with Flash Platform tools as well as applications created with other technologies can be distributed to multiple mobile platforms. Users wishing to install a sharable application on a mobile device will receive a SMS message on that device with a link to the application. Users then click the link and the Distribution service detects the device and delivers the version of the application that is developed and optimized for that specific device. For information on supported mobile platforms, visit www.adobe.com/devnet/flashplatform/services/distribution/destinations.html.
Assuring installs through paid promotion – Application distribution can be accelerated through paid promotion. Tens of thousands of Web application installs are possible through a unique paid cross?promotion model. Adobe is partnering with Gigya to provide the free and paid methods of Web application distribution.

Measuring success and optimizing applications through tracking – Comprehensive traditional and social media analytics are available through the Distribution Manager. This application, built using Adobe® AIR® software, is to promote applications, and measure distribution and customer usage.

Monetization through cross-promotion – Publishers and developers can generate revenue through cross-promotion of other Web applications. When users click to download an application, this feature enables publishers and developers to offer another Web application to the user.

The Distribution Service in Action
· Wall Street Journal Radio widget

The WSJ Radio Network – which provides audio business news reports and programs to more than 370 radio stations across the country and reaches more than 22 million listeners per week – will provide its network affiliates with new business news Web tools for use on their own sites as well as for individual use. The new widget will offer content from WSJ Radio and WSJ.com, including podcasts, live audio business news updates from The Wall Street Journal Report and The Dow Jones Money Report, as well as updated headlines and video, and will be available for users to view and share via social networking sites and blogs.

Quotes
· David Wadhwani, general manager and vice president, Adobe Platform Business Unit
“Our customers rely on the Adobe Flash Platform to make rich and compelling applications that work across operating systems and screens,” said David Wadhwani, general manager and vice president at Adobe. “The new services from Adobe allow Flash Platform developers, advertisers, game makers and other content publishers to connect with an even larger audience more effectively, and grow revenue opportunities.”
· Leo Collions, executive vice president and CIO, Lionsgate
“Lionsgate is actively working to use the Adobe Flash Platform Services for Distribution for media promotions,” said Leo Collions, executive vice president and CIO at Lionsgate. “We can use the service to repurpose, distribute and track the content to our customers throughout the content lifecycle, from theatrical release to DVD to digital distribution. The ability to reach customers on social networks, mobile devices and desktops makes the service especially effective.”
· Brett Cortese, president, Universal Mind
“We’re rich Internet Application (RIA) experts at Universal Mind, using the Adobe Flash Platform to develop compelling Web applications with great user experiences – and the new Flash Platform Services are sure to add value to the RIAs we build,” said Brett Cortese, president at Universal Mind. “The new Distribution service was easy to include in the Wall Street Journal Radio Flash widget, and will provide their team important information about use of the widget by tracking the Web application’s distribution across the Web, and by measuring how the audience actually interacts with the widget.”

Adobe Flash Platform Services

Adobe Flash Platform Services are managed, hosted and maintained by Adobe and partners, with enhanced capabilities on a pay-per-use basis.

Later this year, Adobe will also make the Social service available, which will enable developers to more easily connect Flash applications with the social network of their choice including Facebook, MySpace, Twitter and Yahoo. Developers will only need to write an application once to provide users the choice of which social network to access through the application. Additionally, the Social service will monitor each social network site to ensure that changes to the network don’t break applications.

About the Adobe Flash Platform
Content that runs in Adobe Flash Player reaches over 98 percent of Internet-enabled desktops, and the latest version, Flash Player 10, was installed on more than 86 percent of computers worldwide in just the first seven months since its initial release.

Adobe Systems announced it is introducing Adobe® Scene7® services into the Asia Pacific market. Adobe Scene7 is the leading hosted rich media platform for e-commerce and multi-channel marketing companies that are publishing content to drive online business. As part of the expansion, Adobe has established a sales organization and customer support resources in Japan and a new data center in Singapore to ensure optimized dynamic media services for the APAC market.

Business-to-consumer e-commerce sales for the five major markets in the region – Japan, South Korea, Australia, India and China – totaled $73.3 billion in 2007, with 62.3 percent coming from Japan. Industry analysts forecast APAC online sales will continue to grow at a 23.3 percent annual rate reaching $168.7 billion by 2011.

By using the Adobe Scene7 platform, companies serving the APAC markets will now have local access to cross-media publishing on the Web, via e-mail, in print or on mobile devices to help their businesses grow faster. Adobe Scene7 hosted solutions allow the automation of cross-media management, enabling users to streamline online images, reducing volume by up to 80 percent and potentially cut photography costs in half. Customers have experienced up to a 90 percent increase in sales across all channels as well as doubling conversion rates, while reducing returns by over 10 percent.

KUALA LUMPUR, MALAYSIA — At the 2009 IBC tradeshow in Amsterdam, Adobe Systems Incorporated (Nasdaq:ADBE) today announced Adobe® Flash® Access 2.0, a key component of the Adobe Flash Platform.

Flash Access 2.0, previously known as Adobe Flash Media Rights Management Server, is a scalable, flexible content protection solution that enables the distribution and monetization of premium content, which can create new sources of revenue for media publishers.

New in this release, content protected with Flash Access 2.0 will play back securely on an upcoming version of Adobe Flash Player software – the cross-operating system browser plug-in that is available on more than 98 percent of Internet-connected desktops worldwide.

Scheduled to ship early next year, Adobe Flash Access 2.0 will provide robust protection of audiovisual content and flexible usage rules to support a wide range of business models, including electronic sell-through, rental and video on-demand, for streaming or download. Adobe will demonstrate Flash Access 2.0 during the IBC 2009 Exhibition at its stand (Hall 7, Stand 721) in the RAI Convention Center, September 7-11.

“As the No. 1 software for delivering video on the Web, the Adobe Flash Platform has enabled millions of users to enjoy high-quality content,” said Jim Guerard, vice president and general manager of Dynamic Media at Adobe. “With Adobe Flash Access 2.0, media publishers can rely on robust protection for premium content to support new, emerging business models for rich, interactive online experiences.”

Unprecedented Reach and Flexibility
Media companies are continuing to introduce new ways to connect users with premium content via online distribution channels. In order to create sustainable business models, these companies must find the right balance between access to and control over their content. Flash Access 2.0 provides a way to combine the unprecedented reach and interactivity of the Adobe Flash Platform with robust security and flexible usage rules so that businesses can enforce necessary constraints, such as limiting viewing to a given rental period.

“At Warner Bros., we are always looking for innovative ways to enable our audiences to enjoy online video, yet we also need to control and protect our unique media assets,” said Darcy Antonellis, president of Technical Operations for Warner Bros.. “We welcome the development of Adobe Flash Access, which will help create new possibilities for content distributors to deliver Warner Bros. movies securely to the Flash Player and further expand high-quality access to our entertainment online.”

Enterprises and educational institutions can also use Flash Access 2.0 to build solutions that meet their content protection needs, enabling them to distribute audiovisual content such as training material and corporate communications securely to employees, customers or partners.

Robust Protection for Premium Content
Using industry-standard cryptography, Adobe Flash Access 2.0 will provide a robust environment to protect content so it remains safe from tampering or capture throughout its lifecycle. Content can be securely bound to an individual device or to a domain, which may represent a household. Flash Access 2.0 now supports output protection, enabling content providers to specify requirements for protection of analog and digital outputs, providing additional safeguards against unauthorized recording.

Flash Access 2.0 supports distribution of standards-based MPEG 4 (H.264) content as well as the FLV file format through a variety of distribution mechanisms, including progressive download, streaming and download for local playback. Protected content can also be played back in rich Internet applications (RIAs) that run outside the browser using Adobe AIR™. Developers can create cross-operating system RIA solutions with Adobe AIR that include local libraries of content, advanced download managers, and highly interactive user interfaces.

Ease of Deployment and Integration
Adobe Flash Access 2.0 is offered as a Software Development Kit, enabling Internet-scale deployments and ease of integration into existing software and services such as order management, subscription databases, access control, and LDAP-based Active Directories. Flash Access will also be available as a Software as a Service (SaaS) through a number of Adobe partners that will offer hosted content protection solutions, leveraging their infrastructure across multiple clients and reducing time to market for content providers.

No. 1 Platform for Delivering Video on the Web
The Adobe Flash Platform is a complete system of integrated tools, frameworks, clients and servers for the development of Web applications, content and video that runs consistently across operating systems and devices. Adobe Flash Player is on over 98 percent of connected computers and delivers approximately 80 percent of Web video worldwide. Major broadcasters and media companies including BBC, Disney.com, HULU and PBS utilize the Flash Platform to deliver video on demand and streaming content to viewers around the world. Flash technology is also used to deliver online streaming events on MLB.com and DirectTV and the platform powers social networks sites YouTube and MySpace.

Because of the H1N1 virus outbreak, most public sector agencies in Malaysia – and probably people in many company operations also – have been advised to avoid (if possible) official events or gatherings for the next few weeks.

It’s a timely moment to remind people in government, business, and education, that Web conferencing provides an alternative way for people to get together. For example, Adobe® Acrobat® Connect Pro enterprise Web conferencing solution enables live, interactive Web meetings, virtual classes, on-demand presentations and courses and group collaboration.

Connect Pro is unique in the marketplace as it avoids the technology hurdles found in other Web conferencing solutions, while providing the richest online experience available for highly-dispersed workforces, business partners, customers and students.

Adobe today announced that Gartner, Inc. has positioned Adobe in the Leaders Quadrant of its 2009 “Magic Quadrant for Web Conferencing” research report. Connect Pro runs on Adobe Flash® Player software, which unlike any other member of the Leaders Quadrant, is installed on more than 98 percent of Internet-enabled desktops.

This allows easy access for participants even in lock-down environments or external-facing meetings, enabling organizations to effectively share a wide range of content, including slides, live and recorded video, Adobe Flash Player compatible content, live screen sharing, application sharing, audio and multiuser text chat. In addition, Connect Pro can help enterprises and government organizations meet demanding security and customization requirements with flexible deployment options.

KUALA LUMPUR, MALAYSIA — Adobe Systems Incorporated (Nasdaq:ADBE) announced two new Adobe® Flash® Platform open source initiatives for developers, media companies and publishers. Open Source Media Framework (OSMF), part of the project previously code named Strobe, enables developers to quickly and easily build more robust, feature-rich media players optimized for the Adobe Flash Platform.

The Text Layout Framework (TLF) will help developers bring sophisticated typography capabilities to Web applications. Both OSMF and TLF are now freely available as open source software, helping content owners extend their online media efforts as they look to create new business opportunities and monetization strategies for publishing on the Web.

Establishing an Open Industry Standard for Media Player Development

OSMF is the open source part of the Strobe project that enables easy-to-build media players optimized for the Adobe Flash Platform.

The flexible OSMF architecture enables developers to easily create unique playback experiences that can leverage plug-ins for advertising, reporting metrics and content delivery along with standard video player features such as playback controls, video navigation, buffering and Dynamic Streaming. OSMF provides standard functionality along with plug-ins from third parties so content providers have the flexibility to adapt monetization strategies to specific content and the needs of their audiences.

OSMF includes an API for partners to build plug-ins for value-add services. OSMF will enable more innovation around media experiences on the Web by allowing partners to easily experiment with new services for content providers, which spans content delivery, presentation and monetization.

OSMF source code and pluggable software components are available immediately under the Mozilla Public License and available at www.OpenSourceMediaFramework.com.

Adobe and Akamai Collaborate on Open Video Player

Akamai has joined Adobe to advance the industry toward a widely adopted, cohesive standard for media players that support Adobe Flash Platform technologies. Akamai and Adobe are collaborating on the Open Video Player initiative, previously founded by Akamai, and the release of OSMF technologies. The goal is to ensure a consistent framework for media player development that enables developers, publishers, content owners, corporations and others to more quickly and easily build new video players that create and sustain profitable new business models. By providing all the components for media player development, the combined efforts will help strengthen the industry shift towards open standards.

Text Layout Framework Leverages Adobe’s Legendary Publishing Expertise

TLF goes beyond what is possible for Web text layout using HTML and CSS technologies today, with support for complex languages, bidirectional text, multi-columns and other advanced typographical features and controls. TLF is an extensible ActionScript® library built on top of the text engine in Adobe Flash Player 10 and Adobe® AIR® 1.5 software. Source code and component library for TLF are available as open source at no charge under the Mozilla Public License at http://opensource.adobe.com/wiki/display/tlf/.

Examples of TLF in action:

The New York Times TimesReader 2.0 and The Boston Globe’s GlobeReader — Powered by Adobe AIR, TimesReader 2.0 and GlobeReader leverage the text reflow capabilities, multiple columns and top-notch typography features of TLF.

Acrobat.com Presentations — A new service from Adobe that provides people with a better way to create, edit and share presentations together online. Built on the Adobe Flash Platform, Acrobat.com Presentations looks and behaves like a desktop presentation application but operates inside a Web browser. The open source TLF is used for all the text objects in the slides.

makebook — makebook makes extensive use of TLF for functionality such as multi-column text flows and automatic text wrapping around inline images to deliver an online, creative authoring network that makes it easy for users to write, share work with family and friends and then publish online worldwide.

Quotes
Dave McAllister, director of standards and open source, Adobe Systems

“Adobe is committed to providing core Flash Platform technologies to the community as open source,” said Dave McAllister, director of standards and open source at Adobe. “By releasing OSMF and TLF as open source, we are helping facilitate the creation and sharing of best practices for media players and rich text-based Web application development. We believe these efforts will strengthen the industry and lead to the next generation of Web applications, content and video experiences.”

Tim Napoleon, Chief Strategist, Digital Media, Akamai

“Open Source Media Framework complements and solidifies Akamai’s Open Video Player initiative,” said Tim Napoleon, chief strategist, of digital media at Akamai. “OSMF leverages code from Akamai’s Open Video Player and Adobe’s expertise and resources to assist media companies and publishers in redefining the benchmarks for online video experiences that are powered by standards based workflows.”

Mark Stanley, founder of makebook

“APIs that are standard in the open source Text Layout Framework from Adobe gave us a jumpstart as we leveraged the high-end components for makebook.com,” said Mark Stanley, founder of makebook. “With TLF we can more easily provide our customers with quality typography features and the text layout control they require for their self-publishing projects.”

KUALA LUMPUR, MALAYSIA — July 14, 2009 – Adobe Systems Incorporated (Nasdaq:ADBE) today announced the public betas of Adobe® ColdFusion® 9 and ColdFusion® Builder® software.

Cold Fusion 9, a powerful development technology for building dynamic Web sites and Internet applications, increases developer productivity, integrates with complex enterprise environments and delivers rich and interactive experiences for users. ColdFusion Builder is a new Eclipse based integrated development environment (IDE) used for rapidly developing ColdFusion applications.

ColdFusion developers can now utilize greater integration with the Adobe® Flash® Platform, a complete system of integrated tools, frameworks, clients and servers for the development of Web applications, content and video that runs consistently across operating systems and devices.

As a result, developers and IT professionals have an easier path for creating rich user interfaces for their enterprise applications and to integrate across their existing technologies.

“ColdFusion adoption has accelerated since we introduced support for Flex, AJAX and PDF with ColdFusion 8,” said David Wadhwani, general manager and vice president of the Platform Business Unit at Adobe. “The increased integration with everything from Adobe AIR® applications to enterprise-based Adobe® LiveCycle® ES software enables companies to meet critical business needs quickly, while ColdFusion Builder provides developers with an enhanced workflow between ColdFusion and the Flash Platform for RIA development.”

Customers across multiple industries are participating in the ColdFusion 9 and ColdFusion Builder public betas. “ColdFusion 9 has several new features of interest to enterprise customers, particularly regarding Microsoft SharePoint integration and the ability to read and write Microsoft Office documents as part of a business process flow,” said Joel Cox, IT product manager, Goodyear. “The new innovative array of tools with tightened integration elevates ColdFusion to a new level of functionality allowing for improved performance gains for developers and business users alike.”

ColdFusion 9 accelerates the development cycle by reducing complex and powerful business logic into a few lines of code. ColdFusion 9 applications easily access data from existing enterprise infrastructure including Microsoft SharePoint, Microsoft Office files and portlet standards. Also, new ColdFusion 9 features include an Adobe® AIR® application for managing multiple ColdFusion servers from one location, helping to save performance time and reducing redundant tasks.

ColdFusion 9 also offers local and remote database synchronization with Adobe AIR, improving user satisfaction by enabling them to use an application regardless of Internet connectivity. Additionally, deep integration with Hibernate’s object relational mapping (ORM) provides developers with database independent applications. Combined, the new features can enable faster development and deployment of Web applications.

ColdFusion Builder is a new development tool that provides a unified, customizable and extensible development environment to code applications, manage servers and deploy projects. It includes tools for debugging applications within the IDE, remote support and custom code generation, a customized development environment and support for applications built with ColdFusion 7 and 8.

Using ColdFusion Builder, developers can become more productive due to the automation of redundant tasks and reuse of code. Also, because ColdFusion Builder and Adobe® Flash® Builder™ are Eclipse based, there is deep feature integration and enhanced workflow to generate client and server code. As a result developers can more simply create rich interfaces and applications with ColdFusion server-side logic.

The ColdFusion 9 public beta is available for download at www.adobe.com/go/coldfusion_beta_download.
